Dermaplaning is known to be one of the most effective, dermatologist-backed treatments for efficiently handling some of the most annoying skin issues, like dullness, wrinkles, and breakouts.

It encourages cell turnover and promotes deeper product penetration, boosting the effects of skin care. It works to remove facial hair that can trap dirt, bacteria and oil.

Dermaplaning is a form of manual exfoliation similar in theory to microdermabrasion but without the use of suction or abrasive crystals. A surgical blade is used to gently remove the outermost skin cells of the stratum corneum to produce smoother brighter skin. Dermaplaning also temporarily removes the fine vellus hair of the face, leaving a very smooth skin.

Dermaplaning enhances the penetration of skincare products and improves the appearance of make up.It is very safe and suitable for sensitive skins. Expect baby smooth skin, zero peach fuzz and brighter looking skin for up to 4 weeks afterwards. Facial hair will NOT grow back any thicker or faster than before! I generally combine dermaplaning with a derma peel to give maximum skin rejuvenation.

FAQs

What should I expect after treatment?

There is usually some redness but it generally goes away in a few hours

Skin may be a little dry so I recommend a soothing balm to hydrate it

After treatment SPF must be worn

Avoid the use of sunbeds

Excellent results are achieved with a course of dermaplaning followed by derma peel
What is the post treatment care?

Strenuous exercise should be avoided until all redness has subsided

Direct sunlight is to be completely avoided immediately following the treatment

Spf must be applied daily to treated area

Twice daily cleanse the treated area with a post treatment cleanser, followed by a hydrating serum or treatment cream and SPF
What are the contraindications?

Contraindications for derma planing must be disclosed prior to treatment:

Active acne, Any raised lesions, Chemotherapy or radiation, History of hypertrophic scarring or keloid scarring, Hormonal therapy that produces thick pigmentation, Oral blood thinner medication, Recent use of topical agents e.g. glycolic acids, AHA and retain-A, Scleroderma, Sunburn, Telangiectasia ( erythema may be worsened or brought out by exfoliation), Uncontrolled diabetes, Vascular lesions, Active infection e.g.. herpes simplex, Any recent chemical peel procedure, Eczema or Dermatitis, Haemophilia, Moles, Pregnancy, Rosacea, Skin cancer, Tattoos, Thick dark facial hair, Use of accutane within the last year.
